Have a Troy built 42" riding mower everything new not starting, I had heard something about a exhaust valve if it's broke won't start. But how I do find out if that is what going on instead getting into the engine itself. Please help. Engine turning over but not starting. Also they say something about the fuel level how much fuel do I need to get it started it's half full right now

Troy built bronco 42" won't start. We have not used it for 2 months over the summer because it has been so dry . Would it possibly be the battery? It was trying to start but wouldn't connect. Then there was nothing. Did I flood it? Or wear the battery out?
